At some point research stops being research and turns into hiding.
I watched that happen to a guy at university. He kept saying he was still deciding what to study. After a while it stopped looking like deciding.
It looked like fear wearing the clothes of preparation.
He spent almost two years on it. Not two months. Two years. Every time he'd nearly decided he found another option. Another video. Another reason to doubt himself. Comparing, changing his mind, starting again.
I remember thinking: how much longer is this going to go on?
He wasn't getting closer to a decision. He was getting better at avoiding one.
There's no perfect choice. No perfect degree. No perfect career. A decision is usually just the best call you can make with what you know today.
And sometimes that has to be enough.
We assume clarity comes first, then action. Most of the time it runs the other way. You choose. Then you learn. Then you adjust. Some lessons only show up once you're moving.
So I tell students to stop trying to get it perfect. Pick a direction. Move. Learn. Adjust.
Someone moving in the wrong direction can correct. Someone standing still can't.
Before a big decision, four questions.
Do I understand the real problem?
Have I gathered enough information?
Have I looked at enough options?
Do I understand what this will cost me?
If the answers are yes, stop researching and start moving.
Perfect decisions don't exist. Progress does. And progress starts when you stop waiting for certainty.
